I remember where I was the first time i was offered Almaviva. It as on the M-16 going to Laguardia. I had to make a quick decision to take on the role with Detroit Opera. Right then and there before I got on that plane I had to say yes or no. Ive never considered myself a Rossini tenor so the initial prospect frightened the hell out of me but one I couldn’t pass up. This role has been such a beautiful journey. Maestro Edoardo Muller sculpted Almaviva in my soul and I am forever grateful. What the character may lack in nuanced emotional complexity it makes up for musically. By far my biggest challenge still and yet I love it just as well.
